Armstrong Glen completed a transportation project along Ballantyne Commons Parkway and McKee Road. Both roads are classified as NC DOT secondary roads. Our work consisted of public involvement, preliminary planning, storm drain analysis, pedestrian crossing design, and sidewalk design.

The project involved the construction of one mile of six foot wide sidewalk, and a timed and signalized pedestrian crossing. Sidewalks are critical to pedestrian safety due to the close proximity to two elementary schools. We looked at the cost/benefit of extending new sidewalks 8,000 additional feet to reach the Raintree development. The methodology of the 6-Step Process as defined in the “Urban Street Design Guidelines” was applied to this project, and used to better define the scope of the project. Armstrong Glen participated in multiple meetings with individual property owners during design and construction phase. Construction cost was $280,000. Construction was complete in spring of 2011.
