Located in Chester, SC, the Valve and Filtered Water Line Replacement project was to replace an existing 30-inch butterfly valve with a new valve, and to install an additional valve for redundancy.
For this project, Armstrong Glen, P.C. services included engineering design and construction observation. The existing butterfly valve was located on the 30” ductile iron high service line which feeds all potable water to the system. This main is the only means of re-supplying and pressurizing the Chester Metro system. Therefore, line stops with a temporary by-pass were installed to maintain pressure and flow to Chester Metro distribution system. Due to line pressures of 150 psi, several line stops failed and were replaced prior to start of by-passing.
In addition to the valve replacement, a section of deteriorated 24” filtered water line was also replaced. A temporary 24” bypass was first installed, and then quickly tied-in order to maintain continuous operation. The bypass line was direct tapped at four locations for chemical feed points. The filtered water main was then removed and replaced with new PC 350 DIP, and a new chemical feed vault and fiberglass house were installed at the new main.
Estimated Construction Costs was $391,931.
