Located in southern Charlotte the Arrowood Water Main Splice project was needed due to a new City box culvert passing just beneath the water main. The project involved the design of blocking, bypassing and line stopping needed to splice the existing 24-inch Arrowood Road water main.
For this project, Armstrong Glen, P.C. designed a blocking, bypassing and line stopping system to maintain flow during the splicing procedure. The by-pass was constructed from 16-inch restrained joint PC350 ductile iron pipe. The main is constructed of concrete cylinder pipe which is known to have brittle joints, so CMU elected to splice-in ductile iron above the box culvert. CMU modeling showed that the Arrowood main was a critical connection under I-77, and could not be shut off for construction.
Estimated Construction Costs was $391,931.
