Located in the south Charlotte, the Charlotte Latin School required a new spillway and bridge to accommodate buses and other vehicular traffic on the dam of an existing impoundment. The purpose of this project was to widen the existing dam and create greater accessiblity while maintaining the integrity of the impoundment.
For this project, Armstrong Glen, P.C. provided hydrologic and hydraulic analysis as well as the design for a new spillway, vehicle bridge, and pond drain to serve this project. This project was permitted through the NCDENR Land Quality Section as a low-hazard dam. This project also involved significant coordination with school officials, downstream residents, and business owners.
The proposed improvements included a new spillway bridge spanning 30 feet with a deck width of 30 feet also. Construction consisted of prestressed concrete core slab units on concrete abutments over a concrete spillway slab. Construction Cost was $175,000.
