Park Road is a relatively short sidewalk project with numerous design challenges. This project fills a sidewalk gap along Park Road between Poindexter Road and Sunset Drive. The topography of the site is the main design challenge. Several driveways had retaining walls and, due to past widening of Park Road, the setbacks made grade tie-ins difficult. Several alternates were developed to minimize impacts to the large trees in the project area, and to minimize impacts to the residents. The final design minimized impacts to the residents, but required removal of several large trees.
Another minor challenge consisted of coordination with the adjacent Neighborhood Improvement Project and Storm Drainage Improvement Project. Construction cost was $140,000. Construction was completed in the summer of 2011.
