The Shadowlake Pond Water Quality Improvement Project consisted of the analysis and design of an existing 2.40 acre neighborhood pond in South Charlotte. The purpose of the project was to enhance the water quality aspects of the pond to provide downstream benefits. The existing pond was fed by a watershed of 6 acres. The upstream 82 acre watershed bypassed the pond through a 60” storm drainage pipe and channel. To achieve maximum water quality benefits, the pipe system was reconfigured to divert the 1” through 2 year storm events into the pond while bypassing the pond during higher storm events. A 35 foot concrete spillway was constructed to convey the pond discharge. Stream restoration features were designed along the existing bypass channel to stabilize and enhance the water quality aspects of the channel.
