The Revolution Park Water Re-use Pond Project consisted of analysis and design of a new 2.5 acre pond within the floodplain of Irwin Creek, in west Charlotte. The pond is fed by an urban watershed of 309 acres (0.48 sq. mi.). The purpose of the pond was to provide water quality benefits to the watershed, in addition to providing irrigation storage for Revolution golf course. Pond design features included a 100’ concrete inlet weir (adjacent to pond tributary), 300’ earthen spillway berm, orifice plate constructed over existing 5’x6’ box culvert to divert runoff from large storm events into pond, and concrete re-use intake riser structure. Project involved coordination with Mecklenburg County Park & Rec., Mecklenburg County Flood Mitigation Program, and North Carolina Department of Water Quality.
